As a single woman are you looking for the perfect man? and have you got a mental checklist outlining your perfect description of him?
Hmmm... Ok so the perfect man has to be strong but sensitive ... and smart but no geek... and funny but considerate ... good looking but not vain and maybe even be like my best friend and romantic too... blah blah blah! And I'll know he's the one because he will pursue me... think of me and show me... and truly care about me and what I do... and love God... and love me... and love my family... and my cat... and my fish... and wah wah wah... the list goes on!
Au contraire... lol
Singledom is not really a topic I like talking about, let alone blog about (so publicly) but it is definitely one that has more recently been on my heart. Personally, it's an area (amongst many) in which God is challenging my own belief systems and revealing my heart's true condition. So I thought I'd just start blogging about it.
Our ideas of the ideal partner are greatly influenced by the the world around us. Media influences such as chick flicks, romance novels, fairy tales, love songs and such alike, often romanticizes relationship in epic fantasy proportions, which of course contradicts relationships in real time, in real life. So I must say, these enchanted stories we hear and tell ourselves are actually poisonous to us women lol (... but more on that later). In short, I found the checklist below (thanks to Hungryplanet.com) and it made me think, who are we (women) really trying to cater for in relationships (even potential ones) and what are our true intentions or motivations in finding love? Is it to fill our loneliness? To console past rejection? To complete our inadequacies? To change someone into our ideal? or to even just look normal to the outside world. Have we been saying we love or will love, only to find we have loved ourselves more?
So, for all my single ladies out there with expectations that need to be challenged and as a reminder for myself here's a list to try out when screening those future potentials! Simple enough? hahaha... I'll use it and tell ya how it all goes.
1.
God, give me someone that will drive me closer to you.
2.
God, give me someone that will help advance your kingdom.
3.
God, give me someone that can be unloveable, so I may love them the way you love me.
4.
God, give me someone who can also love the unloveable, for that is me far too often.
God: You soo crack me up!
