Psalm 23

"The Lord is my shepherd;.."

What is the difference between a shepherd and a cattle herder?
A shepherd leads from the front and the flock follow.
Herders do their work from the back and sides of a herd - pushing and forcing the herd to move forward.

A good shepherd leads, protects and provides.
A good shepherd will lay down His own life to protect His sheep.
Jesus is this good shepherd and we are his sheep.

FACT:
Apparently if sheep know their shepherd well, even if the shepherd moved to the back of the flock, sheep will turn and go with the shepherd ending up behind the shepherd again.

Sheep have excellent eyesight, hearing, and a highly developed sense of smell.
